And if you prefer sticking with your keyboard, you can just use your arrow keys or start typing the file name to select a file and then hit F2 to select the file name.

Start by selecting a bunch of files—you can hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple files at once, or Shift to select a range of files. Type a new name for the file and then hit Enter or click somewhere else in the window. All the selected files are renamed using the name you just typed, and are appended with a number in parentheses to differentiate them. The quickest way to open a Command Prompt window at your desired location is to first open the folder in File Explorer.

The quotes are important if your file names contain any spaces. Since the ren command can address extensions, you can also use it to change the extensions of multiple files at once. Say, for example, you had a selection of. Say, for example, you had a bunch of.

You could use the following command to make the change:. This tells Windows to rename all files with the. And this only begins to address the kinds of command line wizardy you can get into if you want to build more complicated commands—or even batch scripts —by weaving other commands and conditionals into things. PowerShell offers even more flexibility for renaming files in a command-line environment.

Easy enough. But the real power in PowerShell comes from the ability to pipe commandlets together and some of the conditional switches supported by the rename-item commandlet. Say we wanted to replace the space in those file names with an underscore so that the file names contain no spaces. We could use the following commandlet:.GitHub is home to over 40 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together.

Visual Studio Code supports refactoring operations refactorings such as Extract Method and Extract Variable to improve your code base from within your editor. For example, a common refactoring used to avoid duplicating code a maintenance headache is the Extract Method refactoring, where you select source code that you'd like to reuse elsewhere and pull it out into its own shared method.

Refactoring support for other programming languages is provided through VS Code extensions which contribute language services. The UI and commands for refactoring are the same across languages, and in this topic we'll demonstrate refactoring support with the TypeScript language service. An available Code Action is announced by a lightbulb near the source code when the cursor is on a squiggle or selected text region.

Note: If you prefer to not see the Code Action lightbulb in your editor, you can disable lightbulbs with the editor. Source code fragments can be extracted into a new method, or into a new function at various different scopes.

During the extract refactoring, you will be prompted to provide a meaningful name. TypeScript language service provides Extract to const refactoring to create a new local variable for the currently selected expression:.

Doing this my app crashed. If i stop my packager and start it again, everything is fine. Is really necessary an example? In attempting to reproduce, these are the steps I took. Please let me know how they differ from what you tried.

If they match what you tried, let me know so that I can investigate potential differences in our development environments. None of this required restarting the packager on my machine, and it would be really helpful for me if you could provide me with an example and steps you took that cause the issue on your machine. Cool -- that's very helpful, thank you. I'm able to reproduce that now, crazy!

From tinkering, it looks like. Can you confirm that it's the Text element which breaks live reloading on your machine? Yes, is the Text element the problem here. Only work if i restart my packager. Can't help you about simulators, don't have any installed. Hm, OK. I just tried a few more times to reproduce and wasn't able to not sure how it didn't work before and is working now.

The first thing I realized is that the low-level nature of Node. For me, this meant getting references to four things:. The first two items are easy: I just had to provide a name for the old file, and decide what to call the new file. The last two items involved a bit more effort. I needed to do three things:. Example 1A shows the contents of package. There is only one dependency: the filepath Node.

In Example 1B, I first set references to the file system module, as well as the filepath module. Next, I provided strings for the names of the old and new files.

The filepath module is then used to get the path to the current folder; I set that to the fpFolder variable adding a trailing slash to that string, which will be needed when we append file names to that string.

The variable fpFile is used as a permanent reference to the old file this will come in handy for Example 3. Finally, I build the full file paths for the old and new files.

After that, a couple of console. Example 1C shows the output of the two console. This example does not actually rename a file. So, now I will use the file system module to make that change.

The callback takes one argument: an error object. Inside of the callback, I check for the error object, and then output the path of the new file.

So now, follow the instructions below to see this code in action. After a few times back and forth, this got pretty tedious and I started to think that there must be a way to toggle the file back and forth. Meaning: If the file has been renamed, change it back to the original name, and so forth.

In Example 3A, I use the ternary operator when setting the final path for the old and new files. In each case, I check to see if the old file exists, and then depending on the answer, I set each path accordingly.

Example 3B is the full code for the final version of this file. I combined all var statements and cleaned up the code a bit. As I mentioned, there are probably a number of ways to do this that are more efficient.

Everything I detailed here was the result of a few minutes with Google. Hopefully, this article either got you where you needed to go, or pointed you in the right direction. Learn how to rename a file with Node.

And do you realize that this basically means that ReactNative does not support React and Facebook does not support something invented by Facebook? I have a native project that uses some code from a react web project and now I have to change file extensions in order accomplish this for no valid reason.

Otherwise we might as well support only 1 file name as well. This is not nice as suddenly we have an opinionated library forcing our standards. Our standard React and development coding standards are affected including ESLint standards, such as using airbnb etc. The expectation is. The webpack order priority works fine for developers and is flexible.

I am assuming that the Packager has an order priority that is platform specific now I should check.

Renaming a file with Node.js

Maybe you could have two priorities, that could have a default like: iOS: ['', '. It would bring uniformity to peoples projects and restore the balance of the universe ;- It seems like an ideal goal?

Even better as a second step to make it configurable, but just getting support in there would be beneficial to start. I can appreciate there are some challenges and probably ones I haven't presented here, but these are not uncommon challenges that we've had to deal with in developing with React in the first place.

I think the citing of the comment about 'what happens when you define a. I would have thought we've all had to deal with that as React developers. Developers have to embrace their decisions around conventions and believe in them, because it does allow us all to work together better, and generally gets annoying if you create rules outside current convention.
